GeoPost continues the step-by-step expansion of the international DPD Parcel & Express network. As of today, Slovenia, represented by new franchise partner kurirska in paketna distribucija, has joined the permanent network, thereby extending the DPD network across the Balkans and into the new EU countries.
The keystone of this expansion is a joint venture with Austrian franchise partner Lagermax. Geopost will hold a 70% stake in the enterprise with the other 30% being held by Lagermax. This renewed cooperation, which has previously led to successful joint ventures in Hungary and Croatia, will enable DPD’s main shareholder GeoPost to further expand its international network within Central and Eastern Europe. Thanks to its Austrian-based network, Lagermax has traditionally had close ties with the Balkan states and respectively has the advantage of an existing infrastructure in South-East Europe.
“Our experiences in the Hungarian and Croatian markets have generally been very positive and we are very pleased to take another key step in expanding our parcel services thanks to our proven partnership with Lagermax,” said Dr. Claude Béglé, CEO International Division & Development of GeoPost and Managing Director of DPD. “Business in the new EU states is growing at an increasing rate with our customers expecting GeoPost to provide identical products and services internationally,” Dr Béglé explained.
DPD will start operations in Slovenia with two distribution centres, one in Ljubljana – the headquarters of the new franchisee – and another in Maribor. These will serve as entry and exit points for all items entering and leaving the DPD system in Europe.
