DPD & Fedex to move into German domestic market

Parcel delivery firm, Deutscher Paketdienst (DPD) is to team up with FedEx to move into the international arena and take on Deutsche Post in the German Domestic Market.
DPD, a subsidiary of France’s La Poste is the second largest delivery service provider in Germany after Deutsche Post and through its collaboration with FedEx will now compete in the express deliveries sector.
DPD said the move would give it a foothold in 200 countries and add to its existing ventures with the Swedish Post as well as helping it towards its aim of increasing turnover by eight per cent compared with the Euro1.61 billion shown last year.
Currently, DPD holds a 17 per cent share of the German parcel deliveries market, compared with 50 per cent for Deutsche post. DPD said it planned futher deals with foreign logistics companies, including an agreement shortly to be concluded with the Slovenian Post Office.
